Below is a selection of testimonials containing insights from Jim’s Mowing Franchisee owners in NZ.
Sean Rosig, Jim’s Mowing Waiake
“Before owning a Jim’s franchise I was a lighting designer for large events. I did live concerts, corporate functions, outdoor festivals and a lot more. This was interesting work but meant I worked a lot of evenings and missed out on a lot of family time with my wife. I decided I wanted a lifestyle change where I was my own boss and I had control over what I did and how I did it.
A friend suggested the Jim’s Lawn mowing franchise to me and it looked very attractive. I had concerns initially about running my own business but the support from Jims (particularly Gary Turton) and the other Jim’s Franchisees has been excellent. I’ve learned everything I needed to learn and to my surprise after only 7 months I’m doing really well. In fact I’ve got so much work now I’m struggling to find time to fit it all in. One of the big advantages of owning a Jim’s Mowing business is that you get to choose how you work it. There are a number of different services that you can offer apart from mowing lawns and you find very quickly that there are a huge number of people who are delighted to pay you well for providing these services.
The Jim’s systems and training helped me learn how to run my own successful business and today I couldn’t be happier! I have the lifestyle that I want, I have time for my family and I never work nights!! Best of all I have control over everything. I choose the customers I work for, the type of work I do and how much time I spend each day working. One of the things I noticed in my previous job as a lighting designer is that I was always thinking about the work. In other words I took work home with me and it was very stressful. With Jim’s I never take work home and there is no job stress. It’s harder work physically than being a lighting designer however I’ve noticed that I really enjoy working outside regardless of the weather. I’ve made some amazing connections with people and have a huge number of lovely clients now. I started my business with only 40 regular clients and now I’ve got close to 90 regular clients.
One of the nicest benefits of being part of the Jim’s group is the support and help from the other Jims Franchisees. We get together once a month and I see them regularly during my work week as well. I also love the way that my clients help me to grow my business. I treat them well and they are regularly contacting me asking me to do more work for them. Plus they constantly refer me to their family and friends as well. Being a Jim is a healthy lifestyle and I’ve lost weight and improved my fitness and health as a nice side benefit. I’m 38 years old now and buying a Jim’s Franchise has been an excellent investment. Thanks to the wonderful grace of God, I now have a business I love working in, I earn an excellent income and I have a lot more free time to spend with my family. ”
Matthew Spence, Jims Mowing Kerikeri
“I’ve had a Jims Mowing Franchise in Kerikeri for two months now.
We started from scratch with no customers and have already built it up to over $2,000 a week of turnover. (This is due to a combination of support from Jims along with some work we did ourselves as well.) I’ve worked in the public service and latterly a corporate background for over 30 years in Wellington and my wife and I needed a lifestyle change. We wanted a business that meant we were in total control of what we did and we didn’t want the hassles of having staff either. After looking at other businesses and options we decided that a Jim’s lawn mowing franchise in Kerikeri was exactly what we were looking for.
I love the lifestyle of being a ‘Jim’. It’s very healthy work and in two months a nice side benefit is I’ve already lost 7 kg. I love the variety of work that I get to do and the interesting people that I’ve met. Compared to my previous corporate roles, owning a Jims lawn mowing franchise is stress free. I get to choose my hours and I have total control over every part of the business. It’s also instant job gratification every day. You leave peoples properties looking a lot better and that feels great. I’ve found that even in a small place like Kerikeri there are a huge number of customers who are keen to pay for all the services I offer. This has been just the right lifestyle change for me. I’m 54 now and I can see myself enjoying my Jims lawn mowing business for quite some time. If you are wanting to make a positive (and healthy) lifestyle change where you can earn a great income and enjoy working with delightful clients then look into the Jims Lawn mowing business opportunity. It’s working very well for me.”
Mike & Carol Taylor, Waikato
“In 2005, my wife and I were looking for a change in lifestyle. In August of that year we meet John Crowe after making an enquiry regarding a Jim’s Mowing franchise.
From the onset we felt John answered our questions honestly and gave us an excellent overview. Subsequently, we did buy a Jim’s Mowing franchise and have found the business immensely enjoyable and John’s support invaluable. We have no hesitation in recommending Jim’s Mowing; they will provide you with honest, practical and sound advice.”
Brent Johnston, Waikato
“I was tired of traveling long distances to work, tired of working long hours and weekends too, and generally dissatisfied with working for others. It was then that I made the decision to buy Jim’s Mowing Franchise. I liked the idea of having a territory to work . I was fortunate that at the time a franchise opportunity was available right where I lived. No more travelling! I could choose the hours I worked and I’m the boss. I successfully ran my Jim’s Mowing Franchisee for 5 years and then went to work as an independent contractor. After a short time, I went back to my previous job; But not for long! I worked two years back in the rat race before I once again returned to Jim’s Mowing. I looked at other franchise systems but realised that I couldn’t go wrong with Jim’s Mowing.
I have owned my current Jim’s Mowing Franchise for 48 months and have considered my decision to return to Jim’s Mowing to be one of the best I have ever made.”
Most importantly there is training and contact with other franchisees which gives you fresh ideas and motivation to build your business to the level of income that you want, while working the hours that suit you and gaining the satisfaction of working for yourself.”
